I am a great fan of open source software which I use extensively on a daily basis for designing sites, and various other tasks. Open Source software is not only free, but is generally (in my opinion) much better than similar products from Microsoft or other software companies. Furthemore, the whole ethos of Open Source is one of collaborating for the common good, which appeals to me greatly.
Below is a list of people and organisations that I applaud for their amazing products:
- WordPress for their excellent open source blogging software, which powers this site
- Melvin Lee in Singapore for his superb Arras Theme on which this site is based
- FileZilla for their wonderful FTP software
- Chromium for my preferred brower for daily use – Google Chrome
- Mozilla for the Firefox Browser and Thunderbird Email Client
A word on browsers:
I’m not going to slag of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser, but put it this way – the only time I ever use IE is to check that a site I’ve designed will look how it is supposed to for the IE users of the world. If you use IE, please – in your own interests – try out Firefox, or Opera, or Safari, or my preferred browser Google Chrome . It may take you a day or two to get used to them, but won’t regret it.

Hello Jason!
Cracking website. Got to agree – Open Source is fab.. I scratch a living fixing broken Windows installations (of which there are plenty..) but also do a bit of database development (principally MySQL), and some web development, mainly intranet type stuff.. web frontends to databases etc.. (my personal website is a bit gash but it was knocked together in an afternoon) Anyway, glad to see you’re clearly doing rather well – it’s been a long long time…
